Telecom Regulatory
Authority of India (TRAI) defined Broadband connectivity as “An always-on data
connection that is able to support various interactive services, and has the
capability of a minimum download speed of 256 Kbps.” This definition for throughput may undergo upward changes in the
future.
For the first time, broadband connectivity will
become available in all villages of Andhra Pradesh within a period of two
years.
The Project will deploy infrastructure
providing a broadband access service consisting of customer network equipment,
the network connection and broadband access service with private participation, thereby creating a
broadband network (“Broadband Network”) providing the delivery of IP services. The network will have optic fibre connectivity right
up to the village level.
The Broadband infrastructure is capable of reaching all parts of the State and
shall be able to deliver the following bandwidths to Government and public
institutions:
|
Ø 10Gb to
Class I locations, which includes each of the District Headquarters; Ø
1Gb to Class II locations, which includes each Mandal
Headquarters and other selected locations; Ø
1Gb to Class III locations, which includes Educational
Institutions, Hospitals and other designated locations, provided the customer
installs or pays for installation of a direct fibre connection, otherwise a
50Mb connection would be provided at a tariff not exceeding the tariff for a
100 MB direct fibre connection; Ø 100 / 50 Mb to Class IV locations, which includes Villages Services
to be offered on A.P. Broadband: ü Data services ü VOIP Voice services ü Video services ü Internet connectivity ü Connectivity to the State Data Center |
|
While the Telecom
Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had defined broadband as 256 Kbps or more
always on connectivity, AP Broadband will provide broadband services with a
minimum bandwidth of 2 Mbps, at a base tariff of Rs. 300/- per quarter.
Services to e-Governance:
The broadband network will provide broadband services to 40,000 Govt. offices.
This will enable all Government Departments to deliver convenient citizen
services through eSeva Centres, Rajiv Internet Village Kiosks and web-based
online services. Widespread availability of broadband services at very low and
affordable rates is expected to take not just government services to the
doorsteps of the citizens but also trigger significant economic activity in
every sector.
